Themes of late are: kindergarten. Where should Priya go next year? All of my friends seem to feel as confused as I do. We could keep her at Neighborhood where it is small, but ideal. Expensive, but convenient. Eli will be there next year as a pre-schooler, and how sweet that would be to have them in school together.. especially in a school where the different grades hang out together frequently.
The jury is out though- I've been visiting the public schools as well and trying to picture Priya in each of the three possibilities for her placement in a public kindergarten. Can I really judge a school based on my observations during a half hour visit? Which values should we prioritize? Environmentally speaking, Green Street would be the closest and therefore the best because we could walk there. They also have wonderful gardens and compost that the kids work on- definite values we want to instill.
However Green St. seemed the most chaotic and least "special" inside its hallways, for lack of a better word. It was busting at the seems. The other two schools both teach the Spanish language (which Green St. does not), and we would LOVE for our kids to learn Spanish. Ultimately I was most impressed with Oak Grove, its small immaculate and intimate feel was unique and I could picture Priya there. So now we wait- for news of financial aid from Neighborhood Schoolhouse and also from the public school system for Priya's placement.
Pros and Cons, Shades of Gray.. I am driving myself nuts.
In other waiting news, Patrick was accepted to Norwich University and is still waiting to hear from the other two grad programs he applied for (UMass at Amherst, and University of Connecticut.) Again, so many pros and cons of each one that we are thoroughly confused.
Finally, I am still waiting to hear back from the state if I was awarded the loan repayment grant I applied for months ago. They are supposed to let us know by March..
Needless to say, when the mail man arrives each day I cant help but think that he delivers a piece of our destiny... I anxiously search the mail each day for a piece to add to our puzzle, but he only brings us bills and junk mail!
Here are a few pics. The first is of Eli and his "bunk bed truck" made out of leggos, and the second is Priys sleeping with all of her pandas and other animals.
